Mangaluru, May 6: The state high court, which took up a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning the decision of the city corporation to demolish the central market building on Tuesday May 5, issued stay order against the demolition of the said building.
The city corporation and the district administration had decided to demolish the central market building and replace it with a building having modern facilities. They were concerned at the fact that the old building did not support the social distancing concept needed to regulate spread of coronavirus infection. The wholesalers at the central market were shifted to Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) facility at Baikampady.

Haneef Malar, Ammi Maripalla and Ibrahim B F had questioned the decision to demolish the building through a PIL filed in the high court. The high court has ordered issuance of notice to the city corporation here.
Advocate A S Ponnappa, Latif Badagannur and Akbar Pasha presented the case on behalf of the petitioners.
