Mangaluru/Udupi, May 5: After three days of relief, one person tested positive for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday, May 5. No new cases were reported in Udupi.
As reported earlier, the patient who tested positive today is a 51-year-old man, a resident of Boloor. He is said to have contracted the infection from a 58-year-old woman from Boloor here who had contracted the virus while being treated at First Neuro Hospital in the city a few days back.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 40,224 people have been screened so far, including 18 on Tuesday. Twenty-eight people are at NIT-K Suratkal quarantine facility while five from there have been sent for home quarantine. Another 40 people are currently quarantined in ESI hospital.

As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.
A total of 3,779 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 3,611 samples have been received. Out of these, 3,586 have tested negative, 25 positive, and 10 are currently active. Twelve persons have recovered and been discharged, three deaths have occurred so far.
Out of the 25 positive cases, 19 patients are of Dakshina Kannada, one each from Bhatkal and Udupi, and four from Kerala.
In a press release from the district administration, it was notified that while eight patients are responding well to the treatment, P-507 who is 80-year-old Kulshekar woman and P-536, a 58-year-old Boloor woman are admitted to the ICU and their condition is serious.
As many as 26 samples were sent for testing on Tuesday. Reports of 393 samples were received on Tuesday out of which 392 were negative and one positive.
Reports of 168 samples are awaited. As many as 15 persons have been admitted for observation.
A total of 2,430 people have been treated at fever clinics so far, and 53 screened via mobile clinics. On Tuesday, four cases of severe acute respiratory illness were reported.
In Udupi, a total of 2,389 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including six on Tuesday, and a total of 3,247 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 18 on Tuesday. As many as 567 persons are currently in home quarantine.
Altogether, 37 high-risk persons and 13 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 45 people are in isolation wards, including nine fresh admissions on Tuesday. Two among them are coronavirus suspects, while others have SARI or influenza-like illness.
As many as 385 people, including 10 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 1,294 samples have been collected so far, including 64 on Tuesday. Out of them, 1,166 samples have turned out to be negative, and 125 reports are awaited. Till now, three people who had tested positive earlier have all recovered and been discharged.
