Mangaluru: Coronavirus playing spoilsport for patients needing emergency treatment?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 4: It is learnt that many patients who need emergency surgical procedures or treatment are now under compulsion to wait till the result of their throat swab sample is received.

The people having acute pain in any part of the body normally suffer from fever. But people with fever are under compulsion to get admitted into COVID hospital and get themselves tested for corona. The doctors, even when they are aware that the fever is not related to coronavirus infection, prefer to play safe and wait till the patient is tested. Because if treatment is continued and if the patient proves to be coronavirus positive, the disease would have spread to others and the doctors and hospital concerned can run the risk of being sued for doing so.

A patient from Kumpala, Ullal suffered from acute pain in the back. He was referred to a private clinic here on Friday and MRI scan revealed that the patient needed immediate surgery to correct the problem of a vein in his waist. However, as he had fever, he was recommended for being tested at Wenlock Hospital. The wife of the patient said her husband was in extreme pain and she had requested for urgent corona report but no one helped her. She said that patient had to spend three days at Wenlock (COVID) hospital in extreme pain to get the report.

In another case, the family of a person from Kanyana, Vittal, suffering from kidney-related ailments, claimed that he died as he had to wait for long at the COVID hospital for test repot.

It is also learnt that over 600 throat swab samples are pending to be tested and the doctors are under pressure to complete their tests. There seems to be some confusion over which samples to be given preference over others.
