Karkala, Apr 24: A team lead by rural police station inspector Nasir Hussain arrested two people for the theft of Rs 40 lac worth machinery installed at a crusher at Sooda village.
Earlier, Suresh Shetty had lodged a police complaint stating that the machinery installed at the crusher in an area of 3.5 acres was stolen between the period February 27 and April 22.
Sooda-based teacher Rithesh Shetty (50) and Charan Nayak Sooda (29) are the arrested accused of the theft.
Accused Charan works as a reporter for a news channel. He had called scrap dealers Hussain and Ismael inside the crusher belonging to complainant Suresh and had told them that the crusher was bought several years ago by him. “As the machinery has remained unused for several years, I want to dispose it off,” he had told them.
The area was cleaned by JCB and it took nearly a week to dismantle the machinery. Charan had arranged lunch and snacks for the workers when they were working.
Meanwhile, the scrap dealers had deposited Rs one lac to the bank account of Charan and paid another Rs 80,000 in cash. Charan has confessed during investigations that he had paid Rs 50,000 out of it to Rithesh.
Police inspector Nasir Hussain produced Charan and Rithesh in the court. Charan has been remanded to police custody. Police circle inspector Sampath Kumar is investigating the case.
