Bengaluru: State government waives off loans worth Rs 60 crore of 23,000 fishermen

Bengaluru, Apr 24: State government on Friday, April 24, waived off loans of over 23,000 fishermen worth Rs 60 crore under the Salamanna scheme, the Karnataka minister of fisheries Kota Srinivas Poojary said in a press release. Poojary stated that the state department of finance had released an official notification declaring the waiving off of loans.

He said that the amount would be credited to the bank accounts of the borrowers through the land treasury.

Poojary expressed his gratitude to the chief minister B S Yediyurappa and state BJP president Nalin Kumar on behalf of all the fishermen in the state for easing the burden of the fishermen community in such times of hardships due to the coronavirus outbreak.

    Govt is expecting landlords, MSME owners (across the board) to waive rentals, pay salaries for the lockdown without any commensurate benefits/waivers for them from the govts side! From where will these landlords (small) & businesses generate money, in total absence of any income (forget profits) to waive/pay?????

    I think this was not required.........this comunity mints money and gets all the benefits whatsoever. There are other sectors suffering too. What about farmers?? Nobody borthers for them.

    The Karnataka state government should consider every sector rather than only fisheries that bring revenue to the government.
    Prime Minister Modi in his nation address asking employer to empathetic to his employee. How will employer will sustain with declining sales, overhead cost, no tax breaks and still need pay his employees?
    The contingency plan must include all sector from farmers to industries which supports the economy the state and country.
    At the same time the state should get its full pay back of GST return from center to support the economy shortfall.

    While being happy about it, why only fisheries; what about those from other professions?
    It is evident that the entire fishing community becomes a formidable vote bank, which in no way can be displeased hence the haste when the state is facing huge shortage of funds to tackle CORONA!
