Bengaluru, Apr 24: State government on Friday, April 24, waived off loans of over 23,000 fishermen worth Rs 60 crore under the Salamanna scheme, the Karnataka minister of fisheries Kota Srinivas Poojary said in a press release. Poojary stated that the state department of finance had released an official notification declaring the waiving off of loans.
He said that the amount would be credited to the bank accounts of the borrowers through the land treasury.
Poojary expressed his gratitude to the chief minister B S Yediyurappa and state BJP president Nalin Kumar on behalf of all the fishermen in the state for easing the burden of the fishermen community in such times of hardships due to the coronavirus outbreak.
