Mangaluru: Lockdown rules to continue in Dakshina Kannada till May 3

Mangaluru, Apr 24: Even though the state government had allowed certain relaxations connected with lockdown rules from April 23 in certain sectors, a meeting chaired by Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, on Thursday, April 23, has decided to maintain status quo for the time being. Hence, the lockdown will continue till May 3.

The meeting was attended by people's representatives and officials.

Dakshina Kannada is currently grouped under red zone. Coronavirus infection has resulted in two deaths in the district. Therefore, the meeting felt that allowing relaxations at this stage is not justified.

It was also decided to continue with the current system of allowing shops and establishments dealing in essentials to conduct business between 7 am and 12 pm as before.

    Lock Down-
    We have given relaxations to some essential commodity selling shops, good move but when applying same yardstick for other essential requirements like electrical & electronic sector, auto repair services, essential items like cutlery shops aren't in this.
    The logic has failed here, why? The reason is below-
    We assume people will come & buy their essentials & they get transported across districts such as agricultural produce & we never had infections multiplying while all the above activities took place, but we presume if other essential services & shops are opened then only infection spreads!
    Time to follow Kerala model or Italian model where people still die every day the count is high in our standards like in 800.s they have opened bakeries, salons & some establishments by maintaining social distancing.
    Hope our administration learns something from these places at the least from May 4th & relax the present illogical crackdown on people within a district or city while isolating or sealing those areas where infections took place as per the test reports of infected or dead which in the first place are not 100% reliable,
    One doctor opines when people get any infection by any other strain if they are tested by present kit then it would give positive for covid, which can't be brushed aside, but taking precautions is not bad idea, but going overboard based on these tests itself is wrong.

    I have an eerie feeling that this will continue longer.
    If we falter there sure will be more disaster.
    Take this down.....
    Many who had left their county for greener pastures would be longing to get back...some will be forced to come back...
    World will never be the same.Super Powers will go for a Toss..
    Death rates however hard the Western world will try to hide ...will take the entire humanity by shock. The priority of Lives First or Economy will also find an automatic solution.
    Whatever may happen the scars left by this pandemic will take a v v long time to heal.This Lock Down period is nothing...The picture is yet to unfold...

    It is not good to know that lockdown rules will continue in DK till My 3. I know there are several reasons for that and most important is due to coronavirus which is still hovering in some places not only in Dakshina Kannada but in many parts of the world. We want this deadly disease is wiped out for good and all lockdowns will become locked out from the universe. Till that date STAY HOME and BE SAFE.

    Please don't depend on a vaccine as it's atleast 2 years away! Also Corona is found to mutate fast! The only sureshot way to stay protected is sprucing up the immune system! Overtime, the virulence of CORONA
    One very good news for Indians is that the virus (per latest research reports) doesn't sustain for long in sunlight & high temps & humidity!

    People do not understand the necessity of the strict lockdown. We have only about 3 active cases, while the rest of them are discharged. Although there are so many people are under quarantine and their test results pending. Hope the results arrive soon.
    On the other hand, other districts of our state has a plenty of cases (~100) and we could see traffic jams from the last few days.

    In Sweden "heard immunity"levels will be reached in a short time as there was no lockdown.When will we learn? Let nature take its own course.In Corona 80% of positive patients have no symptoms, mortality is around 4% mostly due to comorbidity.Why this fear , panic and lockdown.Be Happy Be Healthy.

    Never seen a such unplanned administration. Cant we just copy Udupi?
    People who are working from home abroad company have to follow a different time zone. Usually don't have a chance to buy groceries in morning time as people work at Night. And by the time when they wake up everything is closed.
    Why dont we have 3PM to 4PM interval at evening like Udupi?
    Atleast if you cant make the decision we can atleast copy and have them as our role model and implement!

    Could they share with us what is the plan they have in mind to control the disease? Both before May 3 and after. Pushing lockdown by a few days every time there is a case, is a third world solution. Cannot happen in 2020, could be done in 1980s probably

    There is a big social responsibility now on everyone shoulder.
    UNTIL COVID 19 VACCINE Becomes available, people need to obey strict discipline. Otherwise entire community will suffer.

    Since there is no immunity among all of us, so everyone of us under real threat. So if people do not obey social distancing, masks etc then pain will be more.
    People need to cut all nonessentials travel outside even if there is relaxation of rules. For the best interest of our own.

    Even recovered patient can catch virus again and no herd immunity. 20% fatality rate and only 80% recovery so far...

    Please people think seriously until vaccination becomes available...

    As the testing kits from China were faulty, it is possible that it marked these people wrongly. (either they were not infected to begin with or did not recover from infection). So we cannot say that people with immunity will not resist a 2nd bout of the virus - its 50-50 for the moment until labs get to test this theory.

    But the faulty kits may have set us back. I have already presumed we will be extending the lockdown till 24 May - any further time will tell.

    I really feel its the right decision taken, its a hard decision but its the right one. there has been two deaths in DK. because its difficult to trace back every step of each person who had it, its best to lockdown until 3rd, it will stop further spread for sure.

    I would like to make it very simple. Just imagine. Suppose Gulf is not at all effected by Corona. And DK is effected like Mumbai by Corona. Has any one from Gulf wanted to come back to to DK? to help their family and friends. Not at all. Hope you all got answer.

    Almost 40 days..May 3 has to be the last date, otherwise more harm than corona will befall in people due to lockdown. This virus will not get eradicated so fast, lockdown cannot be the only solution.

    I don't think 3rd will be the last day of lockdown. Until and unless the government is sure that people wont break the rules of social distancing and will be careful, this lockdown is going to continue. If you saw the news India has not yet reached the peak of infection, So imagine if the lockdown is right now in this way then how it will be when the infection peaks in India.
    It is difficult, someone said the other day, USA sacrificed its people for its economy, and India are sacrificing its economy for people.

    Do you really think this is the worst situation? Agreed, our economy was a already a sinking ship, imagine what would happen if the outbreak is not contained, you said there are 135cr people.

    without the containment even if 20% of the people get infected, even with the current fatality rate of around 4%, its 27Cr people infected and 4% of them dead.... Nobody will question about hunger index at that point. So will the lock-down by its own help? definitely not. because who are less fortunate will die out of hunger. But if people who have money and are fortunate can help out those people who are less fortunate then we can avoid it. You can avoid hunger deaths if people help out each other. but you cannot avoid infection death even if people have money.

    Very true, has anybody been able to eradicate a virus other than with a vaccine? A proven vaccine is still far way off according to many experts; long-term total knockdown will have much more deleterious effects....which would be very uphill to overcome!!
