Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 19: It was a sad day for Dakshina Kannada as coronavirus claimed its first victim on Sunday April 19. Moreover, another positive case was reported from Uppinangady.
As reported earlier, a 50-year-old woman from Bantwal who tested positive for coronavirus passed away in Wenlock hospital. Her family members have been quarantined.
A 30-year-old woman from Uppinangady also tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

As of April 19, a total of 39,126 people have been screened in the district, out of who 120 are currently under home quarantine. Fifteen have been quarantined in ESI hospital. A total of 5,953 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.
A total of 1,031 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which 852 have tested negative, 15 positive and one patient has died. Two cases are currently active, and 12 have been discharged so far.
Out of 147 sample reports received on April 19, 145 tested negative. Reports of 164 samples are awaited.
Four persons are admitted for observation.
The district administration has informed that the restrictions imposed so far will continue.
In Udupi, a total of 1,826 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, with 63 of them completing the period on April 19. A total of 2,162 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 25 persons on April 19.
As many as 572 persons are presently under home quarantine. Five persons were admitted to isolation wards on April 19, out of whom one is coronavirus suspect, while others have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) and influenza-like illness. Altogether, 57 are in isolation wards. A total of 217 persons have been discharged from the isolation wards, including four on Sunday.
As many as 894 samples have been collected so far, including 11 from people who were in contact with coronavirus suspects. The contacts have not been admitted, but their samples were collected as per guidelines. On Sunday, 26 samples were collected and sent for testing.
Reports of 118 samples were received on Sunday, and all of them tested negative.
Altogether, Udupi district recorded three coronavirus positive cases. All three patients have recovered and sent back home.
