Belagavi, Apr 19: In a bizarre incident that occurred at the petrol bunk located near the bus stand of Hoolikatti village of Savadatti taluk of the district, people jostled to pick up the new Rs 200 currency notes that had allegedly been spilled on the road.
It is gathered that Rs 8,000 worth of currency notes of Rs 200 face value, out of which Rs 2,200, 2,600 and 1,800 were picked up by three individuals. No information is available yet about the people who picked the rest of the currency notes.
There is also no information as to who threw currency notes on the road and also the source of the money. It is said that this was done intentionally during the night. Police are searching intensely for the culprits.
Health officer Mahesh Chittaragi clarified that three people who picked up the spilled currency notes are placed under home quarantine and the currency notes picked up by them have been confiscated. No case has been registered in this connection.
In one more incident that occurred at Gangavati of the district, Rs 10 notes were thrown on the roads. But the public did not pick them.
