Mangaluru: MCC officials seal shop selling vegetables meant for APMC

Mangaluru, Apr 11: Officials of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) sealed a shop that was selling vegetables that were meant to be sent to Agricultural Produce Marketing Corporation (APMC).

The said shop is located in the building opposite the Kudroli Abattoir in the city.

Some public notified the same to the MCC officials, who arrived on the spot confiscated the vegetables and sealed the shop with the help of Bunder police.

Shivraj, assistant city planning officer, Bharath, senior sanitary inspector, Bhaskar sanitary inspector, Deepika, local sanitary inspector and personnel of Bunder police took part in the operation.

    Most of the readers who comment against MCC should understand the facts:
    1. Central market is almost 100 years old and the limited space inside is not sufficient to manage the growing requirements of the city.
    2. Government has built APMC yard near Baikampady, attached to National Highway, in around 15 acres of land , with huge go downs and shops, and the central market traders are refusing to shift to the new place, because they don't want to face the competition from new traders who may join wholesale businesses. As of now, vegetables wholesale traders of central market are operating like mafia, without giving businesses opportunity to new businesses people.
    3. Because of vegetable mafia of MANGALORE, vegetables in MANGALORE are very costly when compared to Hassan, Shimogga and other places and also fresh vegetables are not available.
    4. Vegetable growing farmers literally cannot sell their products in central market to retailers as there is no sufficient place to keep their produce, and to wait till they get good rate.
    5.This is an excellent step taken by District Administration and MCC and the citizens of MANGALORE would reap the benefits in long run.
    6.Lot of illegal areca businesses is happening in Bunder and central market area. APMC is a closed yard and if all areca businesses are shifted to APMC, all tax cheating may be reduced.

    There is no Josh or power in your comment. 100 years ago is 1920.
    Mangalore city toads were sprinkled with water from steam driven
    motor trucks to keep dust Down.
    Bunker area was trading centre.
    Do not attribute Failure of administration to common
    Citizen.
    You think if APMC was the best solution , where were you ?

    APMC vegitables are also sold to the public, retailers also sell it to the public. Does it make a difference as long as it is consumed by the human beings in these difficult days? Farmers are dumping their hard grown farm products as garbage due to non availability of transportation! But nobody cares!

    There is lockdown and people are urgently in need of vegetables, and MCC officials are proud that they swiftly went into action.

    When there is pipe burst, no water supply, garbage filed up and you complain, that time, they say repair men are busy elsewhere, or it is a holiday or parts are awaited, and it takes days for swift action. Let them give statistics, how many water supply and garbage complaints they received last year and within how many hours they took remedial action. They will not give it.

    APMC (the wholesale fruit & vegetable market) in Vashi near Mumbai is closed because of viral infections. So, no fruits and vegetables in Mumbai since today morning.
    They are spitting everywhere and Mumbai is the epicentre.

    If MCC was in favour of Mangaloreans, it would have opened up Urwa Market, Mannagudda market, Kavoor markets and other markets which are ready but not ready to serve the public.

    They could have asked Wholesalers or atleast Retailers to operate from here.

    Right now. they have asked Retailers to go to Suratkal, buy vegetables,bring back to the city and sell. But at what price. No controle.

    Who is at loss now. Retailers do not dispiay their prices, MCC does not insist for such an arrangement This is nothing else, but leading to looting.... we are all scapegoats.

    This issue is much bigger than it appears to be benign. Making good use of the situation, a plan seems to be in the works. APMC was established few years back and was never activated. Why now all of a sudden. If the central market was likely to be the cause for Covid spread, reduce the risk by opening up all Markets in the city .Why insist on APMC gateway method, waut,let the lockdown be lifted.

    How The confiscation of goods and sealing the store will help the consumers?. Now is the time to make compromises and concessions, to help ,helpless people.
    Is it the vendor in question targeted? Why not regularize the violations with fines?

    32 millions will be jobless in near future the report says. When desperation sets into people, new problems will appear in the society.
    MCC Officials and elected Reps please think carefully, to find out how best you
    Can help common people of the city. Not much money in people's hands. 500 Rs Jan Dhan will nit stretch too far and how long?
    If the goods were stolen and being Sold there are laws for that.
    Very Dark days are expected soon. Compassion and wisdom is the need of the hour

    MCC compounding the problems of common man. on one hand we are finding it difficult to get some groceries & vegetables. Instead of opening up maximum outlets to dispense essentials, they are closing up what ever is there.They can at least impose some fine for whatever wrong has happened over there & let the shops open.

    People are finding it hard to get fresh vegetables and here these MCC people are going by some crazy rules to harass people who are trying to keep alive the supply chain. At this time when people are not allowed to travel by vehicles , why shift the wholesale market to outside the city?.Foolish.

    If farmers find direct route to retailers it would be more efficient and more remunerative to farmers. Middle men and bureaucracy like APMC adds to cost for end user and low remuneration to farmers. The middlemen make the most money.

    Vegetables meant for APMC, how do you identify that way. , We all know, the Wholesalers were sent to APMC yard in a hurry, overnight, to Suratkal without ready infrastucture.

    Same vegetables are sold by Retailers in the city.

    Here , it looks like vegetables were stocked and sold in a shop, where there is no Retail Licence and its sold by the locals.

    The issue here is Retailing without Licence and operation by the ..........

    Not fair, selling this way......also, not fair, targetting this way.......At least, during this Lockdown
