Bengaluru: Wearing of masks in public places made mandatory

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 9: The state government, taking into consideration additional measures needed to tackle coronavirus menace, has made it mandatory for the people to wear masks compulsorily in public places. This was stated by minister, Suresh Kumar, when briefing the press on Wednesday April 8. He said that all visits including the road and grocery store would be treated as public places.

The minister however, clarified that it would be sufficient even if a home-made mask is used. But people should not venture out without a mask, he said.

Kumar said that the central government has since taken a decision to bring all the healthcare providers under the ambit of 'Gareeb Kalyan Yojana' as per which in case of death of healthcare provider when treating coronavirus patients, his or her family will be eligible to receive compensation of Rs 50 lac.

When his attention was drawn towards a video of a boy crying as he wanted to be with his mother, a nurse working at Belagavi, Kumar hailed the selfless service being provided by health workers. He said that the nurse in question, identified as Sunanda, had not visited her home since the last two weeks, and that there are many like her in Karnataka.

A new study from researchers in South Korea reports neither surgical or cotton masks effectively filter the COVID-19. Monday, the study examined the efficiency of surgical masks and cotton masks in stopping spread of the virus from infected persons.

The doctors had patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 cough into petri dish without wearing a mask, while wearing a surgical mask, and while wearing a reusable 100% cotton mask. Doctors then used swabs to test the outer and inner surfaces of the surgical and cotton masks.

Doctors report they actually found greater contamination on the outside of the two types of masks than the inside, attributing it to the aerodynamic features and air leakage. It is also possible, according to the researchers, a high-velocity cough could penetrate the mask.

The doctors did note the findings did not show whether wearing masks shorten the travel of droplets when coughing but it does show the importance of washing your hands and sanitizing after touching he outer surface of a mask.

The study concludes "both surgical and cotton masks seem to be ineffective in preventing the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 from the coughs of patients with COVID-19 to the environment and external mask surface.

The virus can enter through the eyes via the nasolacrimal duct into the nose, nasopharynx, and lungs which is the target organ if the eyes are open. The answer is to wear a PPE or hazmat suit, which is meant for care givers only. It is for single use, costly and the wearer cannot go to the toilet,so he or she has to wear adult diapers inside. BTW I am not an expert .

So far in TVs the Doctors have said and clarified that the people are not required to wear masks . Now it is said that it is mandatory to wear masks in public places. The dangerous period already expired and there are no additional to 12 corona virus cases. If the number of cases increased then it is OK. But now after a long time it is made rigid.

Laymen do not know that surgical masks are for one time use, they have to be disposed of in proper way!
Due to high cost many people might use & bring it back home for re-use from where infection can spread to children & others, which is very very dangerous!
Best to use home made cotton mask which can be washed in bleach, dried in the Sun & reused!

Ban in Spitting at public places could have been strictly implemented instead of wearing mask compulsory. People chew paan masala, tobacco etc and spit everywhere. Many animals too spit often at people, Medics, Paramedics and law enforcement workers. Chances of virus and bacteria multiplication is possible in spit. So the priority could have been shifted towards ban on spitting.

I have mask. But now the rates of mask has gone up,not within the reach of common man. Short supply coupled with demand is the reason for shoot up in rates.

Those who have pet dogs, put masks on the face of their pets so that the dog does not eat from the garbage bin,in humans it is the opposite, criminals wear masks to hide their identity and during lockdown to sell essentials in the blackmarket.

As per new report which states that no home made mask or surgical mask is able to prevent either viruses entering or exiting through their vents or porous material that lets in air can also let in them too.
Sporting one is not at all safe as it might give false protection feeling to the wearer & those who touch them again & again to correct their position can get the virus on them & subsequent infection is more likely.
Changing masks regularly is not affordable to many people, It is time education minister focuses more on tasks ahead in that field than give opinion about health issues, let them to expert panel of doctors & qualified ministers only.
If a district is free of community transmitted infections with no new cases then imposing more restrictions is not the right decision but inter district transportation & movement can be facilitated after a cooling period specified by scientists.

Good idea that wearing of masks in public places has been made mandatory by minister Suresh Kumar. It is for the safety of everyone and I hope it is strictly implemented. But this should have been done immediately after lockdown. Anyway, it is never too late.

Please specify home made mask. Is it wearing two handkerchiefs is not sufficient one above another. It is learned earlier virus can able to enter even thru mask. Better use bigger handkerchiefs for not giving chance it to enter. Masks also in shortage.
