Mangaluru: Shops to remain open from 6 am to 3 pm on Mar 31 to buy essential supplies

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Some hours of relief from the lockdown will be provided to citizens on Tuesday March 31 in order to procure essential commodities, informed district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary here on Sunday March 29.

Poojary told reporters here that lockdown will continue on Monday March 30, but on Tuesday, shops selling essential commodities like groceries will remain open from 6 am to 3 pm.

"People have supported the strict lockdown over the past two days in the district. On Monday too the district will be under complete lockdown. On Tuesday we will allow people to buy essentials from 6 am to 3 pm," he said.

He also urged people to observe social distancing while buying essential supplies.

"Only person per family should go out to buy essentials, and items should be sold at fixed prices. We will take stringent action against any vendor who sells essential supplies at exorbitant prices. The deputy commissioner has been instructed to take action if anyone charges more than the MRP," he said.

On arrangements done to provide food to the poor and stranded migrants, he said, "Food will be arranged under the aegis of the religious endowment department. Around 1,500 destitute will be provided food and shelter. We have also made arrangements to distribute food through Indira Canteen in Mangaluru."

Online stores do not function, nobody responds when we call on the numbers mentioned, For instance, i called on the mobile number mentioned for spar it was switched off, numbers are busy, online slots are unavailable, and the endless queues at every single store ! groceries and essentials should be kept open for 2-3 hours everyday to avoid these issues. Even on standing in queues for hours, the end result is heading home with nothing in hand. There should be a reasonable solution.

Instead of opening/providing groceries and other commodities it is better to provide them by opening shops etc. each day for 2 to 3 hours to avoid rush at a time. It is due to their hungerness only all these confusions happen.

Too much bad idea. 31st there will be heavy rush. Because only 31st date is announced. Uncertainty about coming days. It is erratic decision. Keeping people in tension. Sad to see vegetables rotting in central market. Plz plan properly.

There's no consistency in decision. We were expecting essential home delivery under district administration supervision. But today decision will create problem to citizens and police and district administration. We are simply to blame government employees with out their fault. Citizens are put under anxiety. It's better district administration issue orders instead political statement

Please visit dk.nic.in they have already updated the list of online delivery apps with numbers, and phone numbers of the stores who will deliver home. These are 61 stores across various areas of Mangalore, including More, Fathima stores, Ganesh Bazaar, Nilgiris , Kankanady supermarket, etc. Just because you are ignorant does not mean the govt hasn't already done it.
Also, it's not possible to keep everyone happy. People are cribbing that if there will be home delivery they wont get their favorite brands or are unsure what quality they will get. No matter what the government does, they will always find fault that appreciate the good deeds. As they say, no teo fingers are alike, similarly no two people are alike. Cant keep everybody's comfort in mind while deciding.
It's in our hands how to maintain social distancing and practice hygiene while going to the market . Now you know which stores offer home delivery, call them and dont go out .

We hope the authorities keep their promise of shops remaining open on 31 March till 3pm. Please pass the word to the police on ground to be compassionate for people buying essentials. Like other readers have commented, it would be nice if you were to announce that shops will continue to be open even on 01 April and after - this will be a confidence boosting measure and people will co-operate by not resorting to panic-buying and/or over-crowding.

At the end of the day this is our city, the place and people we love and want to see prosper with huge developments to be cherished by generations to come.

Manage enu gothu aaguthilla swami. 1500 people will be fed and provided shelter to the needy. Then where is the social distancing. All people will be sitting in a row.Besides there are volunteers to serve them. Are they throwing the food from a distance of 3 to 6 feet or whatever. The total purpose of social distancing is defeated
AN INDIVIDUAL WALKING ON THE STREET IS Whipped but 1oos and 1000s fed at a stretch is tolerable in distancing. Next providing shelter .Hasugalannu doddiyalli katti hakida hage hakuthira.Haage made bedi sir.Social distancing sir Social distancing. COVID 19 namma M angalurige beda

After lockdown of 3 days and opening a limited time of shops selling essential goods will find majority of population of Mangalore rushing to shops to buy food items. There will be huge crowds and people will forget social distancing in their hurry to stock up. District Administration should make arrangements in markets to strictly enforce social distancing and all the shops are well stocked with food items. Also the prices of food items should be closely monitored.

Sir I feel instead of complete lock down for 3 days it's better to keep open few hours every day so there won't be panic and hoarding otherwise whole mangalore will come to street to buy essential in panic and whole purpose of lockdown will go in vein by grace of good we mangloreans are far safe from virus so far by efforts of all govt authorities

You are not allowing Malls like Spar or Big Bazar to
remain open. So your allowing only grocery stores
for few hours in 31st is fine but it will definitely create
chaos on shops as social distancing cannot be implemented
please therefore allow at least 3 days from
31st so that people comfortably shop with dignity and comply your
social distancing norms. Door delivery list is of no use as
they are all new comers and untested of any credibility
to gain confidence. Please allow Malls to entertain
    door deliveries.

Instead of opening once in 3-4 days it would be better to keep the shops open everyday for a few hours. if you suddenly open after days of closure a huge group of people will rush to buy. so social distancing will go for a toss.

People partially flaunt rules cause they can't rely on administrations words. One day they will say essentials will be open on all says. No need to hoard. Any fool who got into trusting this info essentially got a fair lesson. So next time like the rest he will hoard when things are open. Shutting 3 days straight when there are 6 cases no deaths . But people have actually died due to withdrawal and mental issues because of heavy headedness. Enforce social distancing. Enforce isolation of secondary contacts. Let others live with fair restrictions. Test as much as possible. But this they don't want to do. They want to kill the economy with either the lockdown or the virus. Lockdown is not the solution. We will have to be in perpetual permanent lockdown till we get a vaccine. That is atleast a good year ahead of us.

if you don't know anything about medicine and healthcare keep advice to yourself. You don't know about the disease Dynamics, pathogenicity nor about prevention. Complete lockdown is one and only measure that will work. Once you visit any hospital and see how health care professionals are managing it.What economy are you talking if people only won't survive. You cannot place economy over thousands of death. Don't spread half baked things. Whatever you are telling is abysmal .Half knowledge is always dangerous.
Complete lockdown is the only solution.but practically100% lockdown is not possible.
