Mangaluru, Mar 29: A team of doctors led by Dr Vishal Rao of Mangaluru origin has become almost successful in finding medicine for the dreaded coronavirus pandemic that has created havoc all around the world.
This medicine has already reached the last stage of the clinical trial as per information provided by Dr Rao who is an oncologist and regional director of HGC Hospital in Bengaluru.
Generally Interferon (protein) that kills the virus is released in the body of human beings. But in the case of coronavirus, these proteins do not get released as the immunity of the patient suffering from coronavirus infection will be far lower than normal human being.
This is a simple treatment, according Dr Rao. Cytokines are given to the patient suffering from coronavirus through injection or IV (intravenous) method. When the mixture of Cytokines is given via IV to the patient, his or her capacity to fight against the virus increases. This medicine stimulates the cells of the body to release interferon, which kill the virus. As per media reports, Dr Rao has requested the governments to consider his recommendation on priority.
Dr Vishal Rao, who was born and brought up in Mangaluru, studied in St Aloysius College and completed his MBBS in Belagavi. He completed his MS from Tata hospital in Mumbai and FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) from London. Along with Dr Rao, Dr Gururaja Rao and Dr Jyotsna Rao have also joined hands in discovering the medicine for coronavirus.
