New Delhi, Mar 28: Karnataka will open the borders including Mangaluru and Kasargod highways that will facilitate movement of essential goods from Kerala.
The decision comes after Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote a letter to the union government in this regard. The Thalassey-Coorg state highway 30 was closed by Karnataka to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the state. This had affected the movement of goods vehicles to the state of Kerala.
More than 20 police personnel stationed at Talapady junction are stopping vehicles from Kerala. Health officials are examining drivers of trucks that are transporting items of basic needs before allowing them to proceed. Four members of Ullal primary health center along with police personnel are examining people who are arriving from Kerala.
Karnataka decided to open the three routes to Kerala after union minister Sadananada Gowda held talks with chief ministers of both Kerala and Karnataka as well the chief secretaries.
The three routes which will be thrown open to access by Kerala are Mangaluru-Kasargod, Mysuru - Mananthavadi via H D Kote and Gundlupet-Sulthan Battery via Muthanga. However, due to massive protest by public representatives, the Virajpet-Koottupuzha road is still not opened.
