Mangaluru: Market overflows with people despite total lockdown

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Even though the state government has announced total lockdown on March 28, and ordered closure of all commercial establishments in the state, the market here witnessed huge crowds on Saturday morning.

Shops dealing in vegetables are operating.

The state government and district administration had announced that the district will be under total lockdown today and no activities are permitted.

The businessmen as well as the general public from the city have exhibited through their behaviour that they have scant respect for the government order that is in the interests of their own good. The merchants who were expected to keep their shops closed have opened their establishments, overlooking the directions.

You may have it in abundance. But for those who have not, you may have to supply or those people need to buy from shops. Today milk supply was too affected and you can expect children to drink water for few days

Yes...even i tried. They dont respond at all. In fact, some of the numbers switched off....apple mart (padavinangady) do not do home delivery. At least he had the courtesy to pick the call and answer. He says, numbers got viral and everyone calls. Now the shops are empty he says. According to him people come and ask 4/5 bags of rice ...but they give only one or two bags of 5 kgs each. We follow rules and regulations put forward by the authorities and abide by them. For whom these rules announcing late nights? Whereas, when i see some photos people just do as per their wish. Are there two types of rules for stronger section and weaker sections?? Why there was no lathi charge in the morning when higher authorities announced police should be on rounds from 5.30 in the morning ? After seeing the news if we go out everything will finish by 11 itself. Mr. Siddharth, if your area gets delivery at home, please pass on our comments for them to read. Or give us the number of the officials who give you home delivery....its urgent. Today, one of my hindu neighbor given me some vegetables and milk. This family is nothing but than god to me in this present situation. May God bless her and her family in abundance...

    Madam

This lock down is very good for safety of those people who are staying at hometown with family.
What about people staying in hotels pg's they should be allowed to go home after check up as because places like hotels many people stay together isn't they are in risk?.

Also someone is having emergency at home why the hell they dont allow ppl to go home in privet vehicles and do check up in the way, ofcourse government can ask them to get quarantine once they reach home.

Going in privet vehicles shoud be allowed .

Correct. There are many stranded passengers everywhere and they should be left to go home. Even Uttar Pradesh they are letting the hundreds of migrants go home in buses. Even if u dont provide bus it's ok, but those who have capacity to go various places in karnataka by private car or 2 wheeler let them go. You are only creating more chaos for them. If they have capacity to go, let them go. U will lessen the burden on the food system.

I am sure atleast some of them have no idea that there is a complete lockdown today including groceries. If the officials take decisions at 10pm on the previous night how are people supposed to know? Not everyone sits around watching TV until late night. My parents weren't even aware as they were already asleep. I called up and told them not to go out so that they don't get beaten up if they have to go out to buy any essentials.

It's such a shame to see my district people the so called educated people being so ignorant and irresponsible. Look at the number of cases in kasargod and realize we are on timebomb. In my village the total connection is cut off to block the entry of keralites. Still we are not complaining like people in city. If the lockdown is imposed it is for our own safety. Being a citizen is not only to claim the free benefits from govt. But also have to do the duty of being a responsible citizen. Not even a single day the instructions were followed by many people in mangalore. Now ended up in total lock down. Its a request please behave responsibly, understand it's for our and our family's safety.

Actually i dont think this will help much to control spreading virous. Those who visit city or shop everyday may exchange virous. Now almodt everyone knows what is lockdown really mean. So give two days full open to buy anything for 1 month then stop completley, no markets at all expect ambulances. Them may control something...othervise we just like playing tom n jerry with virous

I have a suggestion...one police with one grocery seller can go around in the police jeep and sell house to house with precautions followed..like that one police and one grocery seller for designated area ..in this way people will get the essential food and police can keep a watch and do their patrolling alongside and vegetables and fruits will also not rot and everything will be taken care

I'll tell you who the irresponsible folks are. It is those people who knew they returned from foreign countries and did bother to be responsible and still went forward attending public functions. It is those who still want to hang out for gossiping and chitchatting. It is those who want to pray in s public place even when there is a lockdown announcement made.
Don't blame the government of India. It is doing what it needs to do. End of the day decision are taken by individuals. Government can't make ppl abide always.
Also compare indian situation to other countries. We still are doing much better than other countries. Smaller countries like Spain and Italy aren't able to control the situation. Our country's problem is our ppl. Not the government.

Taking decesions without getting the doctors or senior professionals involved... Central Govt has instructed that essentials will not be stopped... DGP says grocery shops will remain open 24/7... TOTAL CONFUSION WITH THE POLICE AND ADMINISTRATION ... Notice please be issued a day in Advance.. Today there was no Milk.. A must in any situation... Vendors are scared to bring supply if this goes on... Sad state of affairs in Mangalore only...

The DC, SP and MCC seem to have no coordination at all.

They do not know what they are doing. All the cases of positive so far reported are from people in Gulf. Why don't you either quarantine all the gulf people in the airport or nearby areas? Do not allow them to go out for at least 14 days. Put all your efforts there rather than beating and bad mouthing the public.

Chaiwala should have taken the lock down decision when Trump was in India as the Corona pandemic had started then. But he just roamed around and showed Taj Mahal to his friend.

Then the BLUEJP were busy with toppling the govt of MP. Only then as they did not have any more govt to topple, they looked into corona.

It is total failure on the part of the union govt to act on time and utter mismanagement in coordinating with the supply of goods to people.
