Madurai, Mar 25: India on Wednesday reported 11th coronavirus death after a 54-year-old Tamil Nadu man passed away from the infection. The deceased passed away at a hospital in Madurai, said state health minister C Vijayabaskar.
The man reportedly had a medical history of prolonged illness with 'uncontrollable diabetes'.
"Despite our best efforts, the COVID-19 positive patient at MDU, Rajaji Hospital, passed away... he had a medical history of prolonged illness with steroid-dependent COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), uncontrolled diabetes with hypertension," Vijayabaskar said in a tweet.
This is the first fatality reported in Tamil Nadu due to the deadly coronavirus. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu rose to 18 on Tuesday after six more people, including three women, tested positive for coronavirus.
