Kadaba, Mar 2: A sand truck 407 mini truck carrying a load of sand was involved in an accident which happened on Sunday March 1 afternoon near Bollur temple in Nekkilady village in the taluk. Maghraj was fixing tiles to the new house of Muliya Honnappa Gowda in Kodimbala village. He had visited Kadaba to buy paint. When returning, the accident happened. Meghraj died as the rear wheel of the truck moved on his head. His head was crushed beyond recognition. He has left behind father, wife, and two daughters.

Puttur rural police circle inspector, Nagesh Kadri, visited the spot. Kadaba police have registered a case.

Controversy

The eyewitnesses said that the tempo hit the scooter and caused the accident, but the tempo people have contradicted this claim. They say that the scooter rider had skidded and fallen on the road after which the tempo moved on his. The police have registered case based on the version given by tempo people.

Meghraj's body was handed over relatives after post-mortem at Kadaba community health centre on Sunday night. Rajathani workers who worked with Meghraj sat on protest demonstration opposite the mortuary, duly accusing the police of registering the case in a way that is favourable to lorry owners. After the police took them to the accident spot and held discussions, post-mortem was allowed to be conducted.

The locals also said that the lorry was loaded with sand illegally. After the accident, but before the arrival of the police, they say, the lorry was unloaded near a house in the area before keeping it back. If this was done, this is serious charge as it is tantamount to hoodwinking the police investigation. The locals say that the accident happened after the lorry hit the two-wheeler whereas the police say that the scooter rider lost control, fell on the road, as a result of which the accident happened.

Moreover, the photo taken at the time of the accident, shows that the vehicle was full of sand. However, when the police arrived, there was an empty tempo.
