Udupi, Feb 29: The district level fruits and flowers exhibition that was inaugurated on Saturday in the premises of Raita Kendra premises of Doddanagudde horticulture department is attracting people. Art works in watermelon of Pejavar Shree, Lal Bahadur Shasrtri, Vivekananda, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagath Singh, Sir M Vishweswaraya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Narendra Modi, Virat Kohli, Kuvempu, Wing commander Abhinandan, Sri Krishna, Hanuman, junior Pejavar Shree, Yakshagana, Shiva deity in Pumpkin and figures of peacock are breath taking.
Thirty thousand flowers of various varieties are used to prepare an artwork of 24 feet long boat. People and children can be seen clicking photos and selfies in front of various other art works made out of flowers. Nursery saplings and seeds are available for sale to those who are interested. Flower Rangoli competition will be held at 10 am on Sunday for the public. A discussion on mixed crop will be held on March 2.
District panchayat president Dinaker Babu who inaugurated the exhibition wished that the exhibition may encourage farmers and that the district may be known as the district of horticulture. “People should participate in such exhibitions and give their feedback,” he said.
Agriculture and industry standing committee president Sumith Shetty said that Udupi is giving importance to agriculture. “The exhibition is held in order to promote horticulture along with agriculture,” he said. Three hand books giving information on agriculture were released.
District panchayat CEO Preeti Gehlot, education and health standing committee president Pratap Hegde Marali, horticulture department joint director Kempegowda, assistant director Chandrashekar Nayak and others were present. Horticulture department deputy director Bhuvaneshwari welcomed.
