Mumbai, Sep 1: The twelfth annual general body meeting of Kannada Seva Sangh Powai (Registered) was held at S M Shetty College auditorium, Powai, here recently.
Powai Panchakuteer Rundamalini temple priest Suvarna Baba inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Advocate R J Shetty, who is the Sangh’sk president, presided over the programme.
Mulund Bunts Sangh president Nagriguttu Vivek Shetty was the chief guest of the occasion.
Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee chief secretary Sharif Khan was the specially invited guest.
Nagriguttu Vivek Shetty, speaking on the occasion, requested the people not to disregard his / her mother tongue during their life time. Kannada Seva Sangh Powai has set an example to other Kannadiga organizations by fostering mother tongue Kannada and its culture in the metro, he appreciated.
Suvarna Baba said that Kannada Seva Sangh Powai needs a own building and hoped that this could be realized with the generous contributions from government and NGOs. Meanwhile, he also assured of making major contribution in this regard.
Bunts Sangh vice president, chartered accountant Shankar B Shetty, Babas Group of industries Mahesh Shetty, Sagar Developers managing director Mudrady Divakar Shetty, hotellier Appanna Shetty, V K Impex International managing director and Harikrishna Foundation founder Karunakaran Putran, Kannada Seva Sangh former president Sudakar G Poojary, local social worker Sharad S Pawar, Sun Raj Packaging proprietor Rajendra Shetty, National Congress Press youth wing chief secretary Kalattoor Vishwanat Shetty, Sangh chief advisor Dr K Sanjeev Shetty and others participated as the guests of honour.
‘Samaraj Ratna’ title was awarded to metro’s veteran litterateur Dr Sunita M Shetty, while ‘Kannada Jyoti’ title was presented to renowned dramatist, Shimunje Parari.
Sarvottam Shetty, Nalini S Poojary and Dr Rashmi D Shetty were also honoured on this occasion.
Karunakaran Putran said that he had studied in a night school, after he arrived in the metro at an early age and has now been leading a successful life. He said, this has proved that no language barrier comes on the way of success. Meanwhile, he urged the Kannadigas to help the poorest of the poor. He also committed himself to work for the welfare of the people and children in his neighbourhood through the Sangh.
Sangh vice president Prabhakar Shetty, sports committee president Karunakar G Shetty, Tulu committee president Jagannat K Shetty Yennehole, women’s wing president Mohini R Shetty, youth wing president Sandesh R Shetty, membership committee president Divakar M Shetty and others were present on the dais.
Vice president D K Shetty welcomed the gathering. Honorary chief secretary Nagaraj Gurpur and education committee’s Dayanand C Bangera compered the programme.
Variety dance programmes by the children of Sangh members were presented on this occasion. ‘Yenkulu Matha Nirekare’, a Tulu comic play, was staged by the metro-based ‘Saptaswara’ drama troupe, as part of cultural programmes.
