Mangaluru, Aug 14: National Librarians’ Day was celebrated at the library complex of Expert PU College Valachil in remembrance of professor of library science Padmashree Dr Ranganathan who had spearheaded library development in India.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institution Mangaluru opined that the library has significant role in the achievements of academic toppers. He lauded the initiatives of the library staff in organising the celebration. He also handed over a consignment of books to the library which was donated by Ustad Rafeeq Khan, Trustee Expert Group of Institutions.
Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions in her inaugural address advised the students to make library a good friend of theirs. She also underlined the need of holding better competitions as a campaign to create enthusiasm among the students to read.
Speaking on the occasion Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal, Expert PU College, Valachil said that library is the heart and soul of educational institution where students can read, think and reflect in the silence of the library. He expressed his gratitude to the management for providing a well stacked and full-fledged library.Meghanadha, assistant librarian presented a talk on S R Ranganathan.
Prizes were distributed to the students and staff as the best library users. Master Somanna K V of L2 batch and Greeshma M of Q2 batch received prizes as best readers in boys and girls category respectively. Santhosh Prabhu, lecturer in physics was awarded as the best library user among the staff.
Raghavendra Sheony, vice principal of Expert PU College was present on the occasion. Surekha, assistant librarian, formally welcomed the dignitaries and compered the programme. Nandish, assistant librarian, rendered the vote of thanks.
