Mangaluru, Aug 2: The department of Secretarial Practice, St Agnes College (autonomous) in association with Ramakrishna Mission on August 1 organised a workshop on 'House Waste Management' and 'Pot Compost Demonstration' at A4 Avila Block.
Umanath Kotekar, the chief co-ordinator, Swatchh Mangalore Abhiyan and Sachin coordinator, Swacchta Samparka Abhiyan were the resource persons who briefed the participants on the functioning of their mission from inception and the various programmes conducted by the Ramakrishna Mission toward bringing awareness in and around Mangaluru for keeping the city clean.
They educated the need to segregate dry and wet waste of each house and not to litter the house waste in public places. With various examples they informed the students about the initiative taken by their members to keep the city clean. They explained the consequences of mismanagement of waste. They demonstrated the making of pot compost, its benefits and taught about using it either for their own plants or selling it to places made available. The delegates were also told that by keeping their surroundings clean and tidy they would have a swachha, sundara and samradha environment.
Shanthi Nazareth, dean of Arts introduced the speakers. Dr Nancy Vaz gave a feedback of the session, Vinitha Crasta proposed the vote of thanks. The staff, students and some of the parents were present at the workshop.
