Mangaluru, Jul 31: The celebration of the feast of Ignatius Loyola was held on July 30 at St Aloysius School auditorium in the morning.
The programme began by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song.
The chief guest of the day was Jeeth Milan Roche. The other dignitaries present were the correspondent, Fr Gerald Furtado SJ, Arvind Rao, vice president PTA, headmistress, Philomena Lewis.
The chief guest was introduced by Anandi D'Souza.
In his addressal, Jeeth Roche spoke on the importance of saplings, their benefits to humanity and their drawbacks. He requested the students to plant one sapling at their home and to nurture it. He also stressed on the percentage of trees that are being destroyed and informed them about the impact which will be faced in future.
Correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado¸ summarised the life history of St Ignatius Loyola and also stressed on the importance of planting saplings.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions which were held in view of the occasion. The winners of the external school competition were also felicitated alternatively. Ayman Khan of Std 5D was awarded for Spell Bee competition along with the Badminton school team who won first place at taluk level.
Entertainment programme included dances, mime show which was performed by the students of Std 6. The significance of the day was highlighted on a Powerpoint Presentation followed by the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with singing of the school anthem by the students.
A eucharistic celebration was held at St Aloysious Chapel in the noon where Catholic students of Primary and High School gathered. The celebrants were Fr Gerald Furtado SJ, Fr Pradeep Crasta SJ. In his homily he stressed on the values of St Ignatius and asked the students to follow in the footsteps of St Ignatius in a small way.
