Mangaluru, Jun 24: Students of Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), Valachil, have created Farm Runner, a multipurpose electric tractor.
The aim of this project is to construct an electric tractor which can do the works like - plough, seed soughing andharvesting. The DC motor is used for driving the vehicle and the supply to the motor is fed by the batteries. The cutter is placed at front part of the vehicle for harvesting and plough and drum for soughing the seeds are placed at the rear side.
By constructing such a tractor we can reduce the dependency of the farmers on thelabourers. Efficient farming can be done which results in good yield of the crop. Since the cost of the machine is affordable, there will be no financial burden on the farmer and the maintenance of the tractor is easy.
The capacity of the motor used for driving a vehicle is 1HP.The harvesting of the crop has two main parts. They are crop cutter and crop collector. The cutter cuts the crop and thecollector puts the crop in one row so that it will be easy for the farmer to collect. The seed to be soughed is kept in the tank which is located at the rear side of vehicle and when the landploughed, the tank is made to open and the seeds will fall where the land is ploughed. The vehicle can carry the weight of 250kg and can be used in multiple purpose in farming.
The run time of the vehicle is 1.5hour during ploughing the land and 2hours in crop cuttingand seed soughing. The overall cost of the vehicle is 50000. So the Farm Runner, multipurpose electric tractor, is very helpful to the farmers.
This technology is developed by Sayed Rouhan Rawaha, Mohammed Jasim Jamal K, Mahipal Singh under the guidance of Prof Prashanth, project coordinator Prof Harshith K and Prof Lokesh B, head of department EEE, Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), Valachil.
