Mangaluru, Jun 22: Vikaas Pre-University College, Mangaluru, and Regional Public Relations department, Bengaluru, jointly organised International Yoga Day programme on Friday, June 21 on the campus of Vikaas Group of Institutions.
Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MLA, Mangaluru City North, inaugurated the programme and said that the awareness of social obligation and unity will be attained through yoga in our society. By yoga one can gain mental, physical and spiritual balance which helps in the development of the country. It is the responsibility of each citizen to take care of the growth and intention of yoga. The theme of International Yoga Day - 2019 is ‘Climate Action’, he added.
Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru City South, presided over the function and in his address, he stated that Patanjali introduced yoga to the world and presently yoga is being given international recognition by UNESCO. M Nagendra Swamy, additional deputy general manager of Regional Public Relation Office, Mangaluru, said that development of the nation is possible only when we implement yoga in our daily life and teach yoga to our family members. He also said that yoga should be made our lifestyle and yoga day should be celebrated once in a year.
‘Yojana’, a book on yoga which was written by Kiranmai, deputy director, News and Publicity Department, Bengaluru, was released on this occasion.
Yoga demonstration was conducted by Nithesh Kenjar, Yoga teacher, Pana College, Mangaluru, along with the students of Vikaas Pre-University College.
Students who won prizes in various competitions held as part of International Yoga Day celebrations were awarded. Yakshagana was performed by Yaksha Deghula, Bengaluru, on the occasion.
Tukaram Gowda, regional publicity officer, Mangaluru, Parthasarathi Palemar, coordinator, Vikaas Group of Institutions, Dr Manjula A Rao, dean, Vikaas Group of Institutions, Dr Ananth Prabhu G, advisor, Vikaas Group of Institutions, Prof T Rajaram Rao, academic director, Vikaas PU College, Ayshwarya K, principal, Vikaas First Grade College and coordinator, fepartment of Commerce, Vikaas PU College, and Dr Suneel B M, principal, Vikaas PU College, were present on the occasion.
Rohith rendered the vote of thanks and the programme was compered by Ajith Rai, lecturer in Kannada, and Laxmeesha Bhat, lecturer in Sanskrit, Vikaas PU College, coordinated the programme.
