Karkala, May 16: Abhyuday, the department of Counselling, Welfare, Training & Placement, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, is organizing a four-day national level workshop on ‘Understanding Our adolescents, Suicide Prevention & Introduction to Therapeutic Counselling for Teachers and Administrators in Higher Education’ from May 20 to 23. It is being successfully run annually for the 9th time. This year, along with teachers in Higher education, Professional counsellors and teaching Medical doctors from Malaysia have also registered for the workshop.
The 4-day workshop focuses on various themes: Suicide prevention on Day 1; identification of Adolescent problems and psychiatric disorders in professional colleges on day 2; Understanding student expectations and dealing with stress on Day 3 and practice counseling sessions on day 4. All would be done using real case studies, demonstrations, short films, discussions, role plays and practice sessions.
Dr. Philomena Dsouza, former principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, Consultant, Nirmala Education Society, Goa would be the chief guest, key note speaker and resource person on all four days. The other resource persons are, Dr P V Bhandary, psychiatrist & director, Dr A V Baliga Hospital, Udupi, Dr Annie John, head of Counselling Services, Aditi International School, Blore, Dr. Kanakalatha, Director, Sankalp Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Secunderabad and Prof Shalini K.Sharma, head, department of Counselling, Welfare, Training and Placement, NMAMIT.
