Mangaluru, May 11: St Aloysius BEd College, a leading institute of teacher education in the city organized the third Edu-Tarang, BEd inter-collegiate cultural competitions here today.
The competition began with a prayer song rendered by St Aloysius BEd trainees.
Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, a versatile actor- Tulu film industry, was the chief guest. In his speech he said, “Everyone is born with a potential to do extraordinary things in life. We are all specialists in our own areas of interest. We can differ from each other if we explore our talent. Talent alone cannot be the reason for success, but relentless and dedicated work."
The chief guest and other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Speaking on the occasion, Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, director of the college said, “Talent is something that gives the person unique skills and abilities. Talent is born, but it is developed through constant practice. We all have opportunities in life to harness our potentialities, but desire, passion and engagement are the ingredients which help a person to become a better person in his/her area of interest. Everyone of us needs to focus on our special abilities and should try to master them by investing time and energy. He also said that competition and expectation levels have been raised in schools and colleges. What was considered extraordinary a few years back is not a big deal these days. Therefore, it is the time to think how to stand out in the crowd in order to be successful in life.
The daylong event consisted of competitions namely, mono acting, folk song, rangoli with flowers, cooking without fire, retro-metro fashion parade, Kannada bhavageethe, patriotic dance, paper craft and short film presentation. Ten colleges of teacher education affiliated to Mangalore University participated in the competition. The overall championship was won by Government College of Teacher Education, Mangaluru and Alva’s College of Teacher Education, Moodbidri, bagged the runners-up.
Dr Farita Viegas, principal, delivered the welcome address. Sandhya (lecturer) highlighted the objectives and briefed about the events of Edu Tarang 2019. Ashwin D Silva SJ (Social Science secretary) introduced the chief guest to the audience. Dr Alwyn D’Sa (associate professor of English and director of administrative block, St Aloysius College autonomous) gave away the prizes. Delna Lobo (vice principal) announced the list of winners. Shreya U (cultural secretary) proposed the vote of thanks. Arwin Pais SJ (student council president) compered the programme. Delna Lobo and Sandhya, staff coordinators organized the event.
