Bengaluru, Apr 24: At last the high court granted bail to Kampli MLA G N Ganesh, who was in the prison since February for assault on Vijayapur MLA Anand Singh at Eagleton Resort in Bidadi. This conditional bail was granted by the one bench of the high court on Wednesday, April 24.
The high court warned the MLA not to destroy any evidence as well as not to repeat the act and gave him conditional bail on a bond of two lac rupees and surety of two people.
Ganesh who absconded after assaulting MLA Anand Singh at Eagleton Resort was arrested from Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat on February 20. The bail application submitted by Ganesh to the special court of people representatives was rejected. So he had applied for bail in the high court.
Lawyer B V Acharya, who argued in favour of Ganesh requesting the court to grant him bail said his argument, "This act was not premeditated. Anand Singh had attacked Ganesh initially and as an act of self-defence, Ganesh retaliated. In addition, there is no chance of the accused putting his status for the destruction of evidence as the witnesses are ministers and MLAs. So bail may kindly be granted to Kampli Ganesh based on these proofs." In the counter argument, the lawyer for Anand Singh had said that if bail is given to Ganesh, there is threat on the life of Anand Singh.
The high court which heard the argument and counter argument had kept the decision pending and granted the bail.
