Mangaluru, Nov 16:Health minister and district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that a Rs 10 crore renovation project for Wenlock Hospital will be prioritised, with a final decision expected by January.
The renovation will cover key areas including the mortuary, the paramedical college building, the post-mortem room, the kitchen, and the bridge connecting the two hospital buildings. The funds for the project will come from CSR contributions and departmental resources.
Minister Rao also mentioned that a 10-bed chemotherapy day care unit will be established at Wenlock Hospital in collaboration with Yenepoya Hospital. This unit is part of a state-wide initiative and is set to be inaugurated by the chief minister in December. Similar units will be established in every district hospital across the state.
In addition to the hospital renovations, Rao announced that the deteriorating Addoor Polali bridge will be repaired at an estimated cost of Rs 6.10 crore, while the Ulaibettu bridge will undergo repairs worth Rs 5 crore.
A meeting with Minister Satish Jarkiholi was held to discuss the repairs, which will be undertaken through a short-term tender. Furthermore, plans are underway for a new Rs 60 crore bridge at Polali for future development.
Rao also praised Lady Goschen Hospital for its efficient and commendable functioning, highlighting its role in the region's healthcare system.
