Mangaluru, Apr 5: The BEd students of St Ann’s College of Education gathered with great fervour and enthusiasm to witness the annual Sports Event.
Donnet D’Souza, senior physical director, St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, inaugurated the sports meet. Addressing the students at the inauguration programme, the chief guest in his message spoke about importance of physical fitness and mental fitness through sports and as teachers to train the future students to face the challenges of life with a spirit of sportsmanship.
Our education system must recognize the importance of engaging children in sports. Since children spend most of their day in schools, a pro-active approach towards promoting sports in schools can kindle their interest and inspire them to go further. He also appreciated the eminence and splendour of all the groups in the sports event and declared the sports meet open.
The students fabulously marched with pride and elegance in their uniforms to mark the opening ceremony led by Pooja S, the sports secretary. The students pledged the oath led by the group leaders of the four groups. The students danced to the rhythm of the beats by performing Zumba, a form of stunning and captivating body swings. Sr Maria Kripa, the joint secretary and the superior of St Ann’s Convent, was the president of the inaugural function of the sports meet and Sr Ida Barboza, secretary, The Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, Karnataka, also witnessed the same. The heads and staff members of various institutions on the campus, and students of St Ann’s DEd College were also among the audience. After the Formal programme a number of sports events were planned for the BEd students’ wherein all of them participated zealously. The overall championship was bagged by the group members of the Gandhiji team. The staff members vivaciously participated in the games conducted by the students. Dr Sr Clare, principal welcomed the gathering; Vandana Pai compered the occasion and Janhavi rendered the vote of thanks. Suresh Kumar T, physical director of the college coordinated the sports event successfully.
