Moodbidri, Mar 11: Students of Yenepoya Institute of Technology (YIT), Moodbidri, participated in the finals of the fifth ISIE Formula Imperial - HVC 2019 held at Budh International Circuit, Noida, recently.
A press release from Yenepoya Institute of Technology, Moodbidri said that the annual national event was organized by Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE), supported by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and titled as 'Formula Imperial -HVC'. The objective of the challenge is to design and fabricate a Hybrid Vehicle, so as to provide an opportunity to budding engineering students to demonstrate and prove their creativity and engineering skills.
The recently concluded event was the fifth edition of ISIE Formula Imperial -HVC. Over 30,000 students of 250 engineering colleges across the India participated in the event.
Team MODTOS is a team of 15 enthusiastic engineers of various branches from YIT, Moodbidri lead by Nadir Abdul Khader and Gideon Mark Warthika which designed and fabricated a formula style student Hybrid racing car. The team was started in January 2018 and after a sleepless effort of one year they have successfully fabricated the vehicle from scratch. The team consisted of 15 members of various departments under the guidance of Prof Sushilendra R M, department of mechanical engineering.
The head of department of Mechanical Engineering at YIT said that after the virtual round, the vehicle was fabricated at YIT. “The car has a 306CC Briggs & Stratton engine and a 2KW 48V BLDC motor. It can be driven independently by the motor and engine or the motor and engine can be used together in the hybrid mode. The car had a few unique features such as a hand clutch mode shifting mechanism and used hybrid composite material for building body of the car. The car has been built with the best possible parts keeping quality and safety as the priorities which are why it was the most robust car in the competition. Due to the quality of parts we used, our car was also the fastest and most maneuverable car,” he said.
