Mysuru, Jan 3: It is learnt that rationalist thinker, Prof K S Bhagwan, who has often been in the eye of storm on account of his anti-Hindu rhetoric and books, has received instructions from the police not to issue any controversial statements for the time being. Prof Bhagwan has been getting criticism for his latest book titled 'Rama Mandira Yeke Beda (why Ram Mandir is not needed)'.
Many people have lodged complaints in different police stations in Karnataka, accusing his book of containing contemptuous and blasphemous remarks about Lord Ram, Lord Hanumantha and Sita which have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Prof Bhagwan said that he has been orally told not to issue controversial statements either in the presence of media or outside. He is learnt to have received this instruction from the city police commissioner, which was conveyed through subordinate officers.
At the same time, Prof Bhagwan continues to get round-the-clock police protection. He claims that he is not aware of any cases having been registered against him so far. His residence has been provided with CCTV cameras.
The government has been spending about Rs 50 lac annually by way of police personnel, gunman etc towards extending protection to Prof Bhagwan. and even CCTV cameras have been provided and managed by police department. Prof Bhagwan has been claiming that he has been doing what is constitutionally his right and he has nothing do with the security aspect.
