Father Muller Allied Health Sciences College, Thumbay inaugurated – Marks new era of excellence

Bantwal, Nov 18: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) reached a significant milestone with the inauguration of its 10th educational unit, the Father Muller Allied Health Sciences College, Thumbay (FMAHSCT), on November 18.

The ceremony, hosted at the Florence Nightingale Hall, FMNCT, celebrated the start of new courses for the 2024-25 academic year and the installation of the first principal, Dr Shivashankara A R.

The event was presided over by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of FMCI, with Dr Hilda Fernandes, principal of FMCOAHS, Kankanady, as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, administrator, FMT; Dr Kiran Shetty, medical superintendent, FMHT; and Dr Shivashankara A R, principal of FMAHSCT.

The programme commenced with a prayer and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising enlightenment and new beginnings.

Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, administrator, FMT, welcomed the gathering and reflected on the journey of FMCI’s Thumbay unit, established in 2013. He noted FMT’s recent full NABH accreditation (2024–2028), adding another achievement to FMCI’s history.

Chief guest Dr Hilda Fernandes underscored the importance of allied health sciences, remarking, “The pandemic proved the indispensable role of allied health professionals in public health and emergency care. As the first batch, you are privileged torchbearers of this institution.” She encouraged students to focus on their studies and families while embracing their clinical roles with dedication.

Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho officially installed Dr Shivashankara A R as the first principal of FMAHSCT. In his address, Dr Shivashankara reflected on his 17-year journey at FMCI, attributing his achievements to mentors, colleagues, and family. He advised students to make the most of clinical postings, gain experience, and practice empathy, respecting all individuals they serve.

Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo announced the appointment of experienced faculty for the new BSc Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology (BSc AT/OT) and BSc Medical Imaging Technology (BSc MIT) courses.

In his presidential address, Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho expressed gratitude for the new college and reiterated FMCI’s dedication to quality education. He assured students and parents that the Thumbay campus would offer the same opportunities and excellence as the main campus in Kankanady. “Thumbay was once a place of hesitation for many, but now it’s a hub of growth and potential,” he said.
