Mangaluru: Student take part in study of mushroom cultivation at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Sep 25: A basic study of mushroom cultivation was taken up by 21 students of St Agnes College during the odd semester (2018-2019).The students were well motivated and showed keen interest in the programme.

The programme commenced with an orientation programme by Vidya Patali, followed by lecture series and practical skills demonstration for 15 hours by Vidya Patali. These lectures were spread over nine weeks.



During this programme, the students learnt about the economic importance of mushrooms, basic biology of mushrooms, classification of mushrooms, nutritional significance of mushrooms, utilisation of waste to cultivate mushrooms, substrate preparation, sterilization, spawning, cultivation and management of the crop.
