Kasargod: Doctor sentenced to seven years RI for sexual harassment of girl student

Kasargod, Sep 2: Dr K Mohammed Asker (30), resident of Akbar Villa, near Kheeler Juma Masjid of Hosadurga Balla village beach near here was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and also slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Kasaragod district additional and session court (first) on the accusation of sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl student studying in plus one (11th Std) in a tuition center. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he has to undergo a year of additional rigorous imprisonment.

The court has directed the convict to pay the fine amount to the victim girl. In addition, the court has informed that the victim girl is eligible to apply for loss compensation under the Victims' compensation scheme.

P Sumya (34), a resident of Ambalathara Pulikkal House, who was the second accused in the case is acquitted by the court.

The victim used to attend classes at 'Chapter Tuition Centre', which was operating in a private building near Hosadurga bus stand. It was accused that Mohammed had sexually harassed her twice in 2012 and Sumya had assisted him in carrying out this dastardly act. Hosadurga police had registered a case in this regard and conducted the investigation.
