Udupi: Town BJP releases manifesto for CMC elections

Udupi. Aug 24: Leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary released the election manifesto for local body election at Country Inn, Manipal on Friday, August 24.

Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat addressing the press conference said, “The Congress led CMC is corrupt. The councilors are acting like commission agents and playing commission politics. The manifesto was formed by keeping all developments and future plans in the mind. We have fulfilled the demands of the public during our five year term. The BJP had inaugurated Swarna second stage in 2006 and later supplied water from 2008 to 2013. But now the pumps are not upgraded and treatment plant is yet to be installed.”

He further said Varahi project for rural and urban areas is completely unscientific.

Answering to a query on BJP fielding new faces to CMC election, Bhat said, “They might be new faces to others but at their wards they are most eligible and active workers of BJP. There are now wards, which will lose its seat this time. I have hope that BJP will get 100% seats in local body election.”

Kota Srinivas Poojary addressing the media persons said, “Once upon a time Udupi CMC was recognised at national level. The Congress has given poor performance in last five years. We will put best effort to bring back the lost glory.”

The BJP manifesto consists of 23 different issues they will address.

Restricting business license fee charge for certain amount, Bhat said that, now the license fee charge has been increased up 20,000. He claimed that CMC was looted the public money. It is illegal against Municipal Act. Ones the BJP gets power, it will put end for all those activities in the CMC, he said.

The BJP will provide 24*7 electricity to all 35 wards. All damaged lights will be repaired and underground drainage and development will be managed. BJP will provide 24*7 water supply to city people. Waste management through Sri Shakti self-help group by collecting Rs 30 from every house, widening of roads and its development, speeding up the road work and land acquisition, construction of well facilitated Vishweshwarayya market and extension of women fish market building, are the developments promised in the manifesto.

BJP will ensure proper implementation of health insurance scheme, meant for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities. The insurance will be increased upto Rs 1 lakh, the manifesto highlighted.

“BJP will provide corruption free service, transparent, clean and people friendly administration to people,” Raghupati Bhat assured.

BJP will develop rivers and lakes through Minor Irrigation Department and Urban Development Authority. The BJP will construct hi-tech bus stand for Manipal-Santhekatte-Udupi-Malpe route buses, with free wi-fi facility. It will construct multiple parking complex at KSRTC bus stand at Udupi. BJP focus on Malpe tourism. It will form a committee of youth of local Bhajan Mandali to manage beaches. A well designed stadium at Beedinagudde will be constructed. A special counter for senior citizens and physically challenged people at Udupi CMC will be opened, the manifesto stated.

Enforcement of Pradhan Manthri Awas project, forming public- participation committees at each ward were the other plans stated. The BJP has also promised to construct circle in every junction in Udupi.

The town BJP also released a list of failures of Congress from 2013-2018. Poor Electricity supply, insufficient water supply, assault on public during CMC meeting, harassment on public by imposing increased license charge, increased tax amount, failure in implementation of underground drainage, poor Malpe beach development and corruption at CMC were the failures mentioned.

District BJP president Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde, Town BJP president Prabhakar Poojary, Dinakar Shetty Herga, Yashpal Suvarna, Monohar Kalmady, Mahesh Takoor, Raghavendra Kini, Ravi Amin and other 35 wards candidates were present.
