Udupi: Fisherman meets watery grave

Udupi, Aug 23: A fisherman, identified as Balakrishna (43), son of Vaman Kotian from Udyavara Pitrody, drowned when undertaking fishing near Kodibengre here on Monday. Balakrishna was engaged in fishing in a country boat when the accident happened.

Balakrishna along with four other fisherman, had sailed off from Malpe port on August 20 morning in a country boat for fishing. When the boat was some distance away from the shore and net had been laid out for catching fish, he slipped after a huge wave hit his boat and drowned in the sea. Although other fishermen tried their best to locate and rescue him, they could not track him.

The body of Balakrishna was found at around 12 noon on Wednesday August 22 from Kodibengre seashore. He has left behind his wife and four-year-old daughter.

A report about this tragic incident was filed at Malpe police station.
