Madikeri, Aug 22: "Twelve goats of our house were bleating loudly and continuously looking at the sky. However, we never expected that such a disaster would take place. Around 1 am in the late night, a huge boulder slid from the hill due to the high-velocity wind and our house got demolished within no time. We did not even have access to come out of our house," says an emotional Geetha, a resident of Katakeri village of this taluk.
Explaining the possible supernatural sense the goats might have experienced, Geetha said, "The goats, which were tied in the shed, were bleating since 3 pm in the afternoon looking at the compound wall and the sky. We were asking ourselves as to why these goats are behaving in this peculiar manner. All the hell broke loose on the same night as a boulder hit our house. We do not know how we have come out of the house as the whole house was submerged in water. On the same day, three people had died in our native village. We realized later that the goats were giving the indication of the impending calamity which we could not sense. Unfortunately, we could not save our goats."
A teary-eyed Bhanuprakash, husband of Geetha, said, "As the boulder hit our house and demolished it, we got out from the house somehow and started to walk in order to save our lives. However, the 12 goats and four pigs could not be saved. Two dogs were left behind and I have gone through the jungle path and have seen them roaming in the same place as our house. We have built a house in five acres and were living a quiet life. Now everything is decimated."
