Moodbidri, Jul 26: A girl, who was overwhelmed by emotions after having been given a dressing down by her brother, hanged herself at her home at Kellaputtige, Dharegudde here on Wednesday July 25. The girl who took away her own life in this way was Seema (24) from Moodumarnadu village.
Seema was residing with her brother, Santosh, in a rented home at Dharegudde here. She had been gifted with a cellphone by a bus driver from Naravi, it is said. Santosh, who came to know about this development, had taken the driver concerned to task and warned him not to in any way keep connections with his sister.
After this, the driver called Seema over her phone, and told her about having been rebuked by her brother. Reportedly he told her to throw the cellphone into a well if she does not want it. He also told her that he will not henceforth try to contact her, and asked her do keep away from him.
On Wednesday morning Santosh went to work as usual, and his wife was away to drop her children off at school. Seema, who was alone at home, hanged herself by using the veil of her Churidar. The incident came to light after Seema's sister-in-law returned home. The police also said that Seema was, since sometime, suffering from tuberculosis.
A case of unnatural death was registered at the town police station, and the policemen have initiated a probe.
