Udupi, Jan 14: Complainant Syed Ghouse H S (59) of Koratagere taluk, has lodged a complaint accusing two individuals of fraud in a bus sale deal.
According to the complaint, Syed Ghouse, who was looking to acquire a second-hand bus for his village, sought assistance from his acquaintances. One of them, Hanumantharayappa, informed him about a bus available for sale listed on an online classifieds platform.
When Syed Ghouse contacted the given number, the person on the other end introduced himself as Sameer from Kaup, Udupi and claimed to have a bus for sale. A few days later, Syed Ghouse, accompanied by his son Syed Siddique Basha and a friend named Javed, visited Sameer's residence in Mallaru, Kapu. At the house, they met Sameer, his father Abdul Khader, and others.
The complainants inspected a bus with the registration number KA 20 AA 3039, which Sameer claimed was a 2017 model. After negotiations, they agreed to purchase the bus for Rs 9,50,000. Syed Ghouse paid Rs 2,00,000 as an advance and handed over a blank cheque as a security measure, with the understanding that the remaining amount would be paid within 15 days. The bus was then taken to Tumkur.
Subsequently, the complainants transferred an additional Rs 2,80,000 through online payment app and paid Rs 6,20,000 in cash, totaling Rs 9,00,000, to facilitate the RC transfer and settle financial issues as claimed by Sameer and Abdul Khader.
The bus was allegedly stolen from where it was parked, and the complainants suspect that the accused orchestrated the theft. Despite repeated requests, the accused neither returned the bus nor refunded the money. Realizing they had been deceived, Syed Ghouse filed a complaint at the Kaup police station.
A case has been registered at Kaup Police station and is under investigation.
