Bengaluru, Jul 23: Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries minister KJ George has promised to provide all assistance from the state government to M/s Sutlej Textiles & Industries Limited, one of the largest textile manufacturing company, for its upcoming unit in the industrial estate being established in Badanaguppe and Kallambahalli villages of Chamarajanagara.
The new unit will be set up with an investment of Rs 786 crore, and is one of the many new units coming up in the district, a direct result of the Karnataka government's development policies.
The minister, who also holds charge of the Sugar, Information Technology and Biotechnology, and Science and Technology portfolios, visited the industrial estate being established by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. The estate will be spread across 1460 acres.
George said that the Single Window Clearance Committee headed by the deputy commissioner has approved as many as 94 projects with a total investment of Rs 162 crore in the district, and this will give a fillip to the development of the district and boost employment opportunities for youth.
The minister said that Sutlej Textiles will manufacture sportswear in the 46 acres of land allotted to it. The company is expected to provide employment opportunities to 1800 persons, the minister said, and promised all assistance from the State Government for its early commissioning.
“Basic infrastructure facilities like roads, underground drainage connections are already in place. Streetlights are being installed and a 66/11 kva power sub-station is being set up. Water supply from the Kabini river from the jackwell site near Nanjangud is being arranged,” he said, and added that all infrastructure facilities are likely to be completed in the next six months.
Pointing out that the State Government was keen to develop the Chamarajanagara district as it was most backward, the Minister said the Gundlupet and Yellandur taluks in the district have been classified under the most backward zone while Chamarajanagara and Kollegal taluks come under the very backward taluks.
Under the state’s industrial policy, industries coming up in the backward regions are entitled to a subsidy of 20 to 25%, while entrepreneurs belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Women, Backward Classes, Minorities, Physically Challenged, and Ex-Servicemen categories will be eligible for additional 5% subsidy. In addition, exemption from Stamps and Registration charges, refund of land conversion fee and 5% special rebate for solid waste management and processing will also be provided.
The minister said the state government was very keen to encourage the industrial development of Chamarajanagar district as it did not have any major industrial enterprises except granite and sugar factories.
