Bengaluru: Expired visas, passports, drugs trade - 107 African citizens arrested

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A joint workforce comprising police personnel from Whitefield, northeast and east division in the city, have arrested a total of 107 citizens from African nations for overstaying validity periods of visa/passport and also for their alleged involvement with drugs trade.

The foreigners’ regional registration office had informed police about illegal stay of foreigners even after their visas/passports had expired. Six special teams with over 120 police personnel began operations at 6 am on Saturday based on this information. The team visited K R Puram, T C Palya, Brindavan Extension, Priyank Nagar, Seegehalli, Anandapur, Maragondanahalli and other areas and arrested 107 Africans who were found to staying in India illegally.

Whitefield deputy commissioner of police, Abdul Ahmed, said that provisions of Passport Act, Foreigners Act, Foreigners Order Act etc would be invoked against the arrested persons. At the same time, owners of houses who rented out their houses to these people on the basis of unauthorized documents would be sued, and cases have been registered against them, he clarified. He added that the issue of deporting the foreigners has been discussed with higher officials and that officials of FRRO office are collecting all the details of the arrested persons so that suitable steps can be initiated against them.

    I'm not against any nationalities , however when you mention African , automatically picture of drugs and crime pop up. India should have a proper inspection done on foreigner documents .... If Africans who can be easily identified as non-Indians can overstay in India, what about neighboring country spies and anti social elements ?
