Udupi, July 22: Udupi District Amateur Athletic Association (R) felicitated national and state medalists representing Udupi district here on Sunday July 22.

Niranjan Chiplunkar, principal of NMMAIT Nitte inaugurated the programme. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Udupi district ameatueur athletic association (r) must be appreciated for organizing such events. Felicitations help athletes to achieve more. Hima Das, a girl from a middle class background has done a remarkable achievement in sports. She has made India proud. There are many talented sports persons in our rural areas. They must get proper support and encouragement.”

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat on the occasion said, “We are sports lovers. It feels great for us when a student gets medal representing our district. We feel like our own children have won a medal. Hard work and dedication can help you succeed in sports field. Daily practice is very important. Athletes from China and other countries get maximum prizes in Olympics. We should also need to develop this type of attitude.”

Yogish Hegde, registrar, Nitte, on the occasion said, “Some years ago, Udupi district used to do get great results in education, but not in sports. Today, there are many sports persons in our district. Our institutions give utmost importance to sports along with studies. Students should mange both sports and studies.”

Athletes and sports persons representing Udupi district in state and national level tournaments were felicitated on the occasion.

Dinakar Babu, Udupi zilla panchayat president Dr Sharath Rao, Raghuram Nayak, Balakrishna Hegde, Nasimha Nayak, Ashok Adyantaya and others were present during the function.
