Moodbidri: Theft-accused beaten up by mob - dies two days later

Moodbidri, Jul 22: A person who got attacked by a mob after having been accused of stealing a water drum, lost his life two days thereafter. This incident happened at Daregudde here on Saturday July 21.

The deceased happened to be Anil alias Mark Mathias (52), resident of Daregudde Darkhas here.

Accusing Anil of stealing a water drum kept in the compound of Girija Shetty, a local, a crowd had thrashed him on July 19. They had later recovered the stolen drum from the theft-accused and placed it back at the spot where it was originally kept, it is gathered.

On Friday, Anil went to work as usual, it is learnt. But in the wee hours on Saturday, he suddenly complained of stomach ache and threw up. He was immediately admitted into the government hospital here for treatment. The doctors who examined him pronounced him brought dead.

Anil's wife, Champa, has filed a complaint with the town police station here, saying that her husband died out of injuries caused by some people who brutally beat him up accusing him of stealing water drum. She has named two of the attackers as Dinesh Shetty and Boggu Shetty.

The police have registered the complaint and begun investigation.
