Chitradurga, Jul 22: Lovers who deserted home together consumed poison. While the boy died on the spot, the minor girl survived and is being treated in a hospital. The lovers had consumed poison inside the Alagawadi forest region.

The deceased youth was Jagadeesh (23). He and the girl were in love since sometime. Jagadeesh, an illiterate, was working for a dish cable firm managed by the girl's father. Because of his sincere work, the boy had earned the trust of the owner's family. During his stay there, he fell in love with the girl who was a PU student in the town. After the family came to know about the love affair, they had advised the boy against going ahead with it.

The boy and his lover, who were certain that the family would not approve of their love, left home on July 19. On the morning of July 21, some shepherds who went into the forest, saw the two lying inside Alagawadi forest, having consumed some poisonous substance. The villagers of Alagawadi immediately went there and rushed the lovers to hospital. Jagadeesh had already died by then, and the girl is showing signs of improvement, it is learnt.
