Mangaluru, July 21: The department of Kannada, St Aloysius College will organise a state level seminar on 'Bharateeya Secularvaada Mattu Kannadada Prathikriye' (Indian securalism and Kannada response) on July 23 at St Aloysius College.
Addressing media here on Saturday July 21, principal of St Aloysious college, Dr Praveen Martis said, "The modern concept of secularism is facing many challenges and distress in Indian cultural context today. Hence the debate about the secularist theoretical political concepts is more relevant than ever before. The aim of the seminar is to discuss the perspectives of secularism in Gandhi, Ambedkar and Lohiya along with Ananthamurthy, Lankesh and Devanur's ideas of secularism in the context of Kannada. This seminar will discuss a vision for India based on secular and democratic values.
Programme coordinator Dr Dinesh Nayak said, "Gandhian thinker and the proponent of Grama swarajya, Prasanna Heggodu will inaugurate the seminar, the rector of St Aloysius institute Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ will preside and principal of the college, Dr Praveen Martis will be guest of honor. The seminar will have two sessions.
"Director DVG Kannada Adhyayana Kendra Tumkur University, Prof Nithyananda B Shetty, professor of Political Science Mangalore University Prof Rajaram Tholpaady, department of Political Science Government First Grade College for Women Puttur, Prof Ivan Francis Lobo, retired professor of Kuvempu University Prof Rajendra Chenny, social activist and writer Udupi, G Rajashekar, SVP Kannada Adhyayana Kendra Mangalore University Prof B Shivaram Shetty will be the resource person for the seminar. University and college professors and students from different parts of Karnataka will take part in the seminar.
