Bantwal, Jul 19: In an incident which happened at Banathapalke in Uli village in the taluk on Tuesday July 17 evening, an old man who slipped and fell into a canal that is in full flow, is believed to have been washed away. The missing person happened to be Ahmed Beary (87) from Banathapalke here.
At around 5 pm on Tuesday, Beary had left home for collecting green fodder for the cows from his garden. As it had heavily rained a few minutes back, the force of water in the canal was strong. When Beary was cutting grass by the side of this canal, he probably slipped and was sucked away by the force of water, it is believed.
The family members who got worried at the fact that Beary did not return even at night, went searching for him. They found a sickle by the side of the canal. Locals then launched a search for him on Tuesday night and Wednesday but could not locate his whereabouts.
Ismail's son thereafter filed a missing complaint in Punlakatte police Staten. Punjalkatte station house officer, Sathish Ballal and fire brigade personnel here have launched a search operation, which is continuing.
