Karkala: TechKnights of NMAMIT Nitte shine at Smart India Hackathon

Karkala, Apr 3: The TechKnights Team of NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT) was one among the few teams to be selected for the final round of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2018 at PSIT, Kanpur where about 27 central government ministries and 18 state governments had come together with 408 problems posted.

In this grand initiative, more than 1,05,234 students had registered with 17,539 ideas which were received from various technical institutions in India. The 36-hour hackathon ended on March 31 and the team mentored by K Sri Harsha, CEO of Kritsnam Technologies and Sudhir Gupta, member, strategic board millennium alliance, COO of Drishtee Development and Communication Limited, ex-COO of Airtel were declared as winners.

The team had six students wherein Pradeep B, Sushmitha Rao and Swati Puranik were from the department of Computer Science and Engineering and Shwetha Rao, Anup Kamath and Akshay Kumar from the department of Information Science and Engineering. They were honoured with a trophy, cheque of Rs one lac and other goodies by the minister Satyapal Singh, minister of state for HRD and former police commissioner of Mumbai.

The students participated in SIH 2018 are the incubates of New Age Incubation Network (NAIN), NMAMIT sponsored by ICT Society department of IT, BT and S&T, government of Karnataka and they presented one of the module ‘Hydrocare’ of NAIN funded project ‘Aquacare’. The team worked on the problem statement of dissemination of information regarding availability of water in water reservoirs under the Ministry of Water Resources and Water Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The NAIN team is working under the guidance of Prof Puneeth R P, department of CSE, Prof Shashank Shetty, regional coordinator, NAIN, Dr Nagesh Prabhu, college coordinator, NAIN and Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar, principal, NMAMIT, Nitte.
