Mangaluru, Mar 22: In order to promote awareness on the ill-effects of selfie and its resolution, the department Journalism and Mass Communication, St Aloysius College, in association with ARIVU, an early intervention centre for special children and learning disability, organised an interactive session under the title ‘Selfie Addiction Awareness’, at Canara College, here on Wednesday, March 21.

Poornima Bhat, founder director of ARIVU focused on specific areas such as addictive behaviour and technology based addictions. She said, "We have a tendency of mocking at others, but change our own status on social networking when we run through the same problem. Pass times are converted into addictions."

"Technology makes brain underutilised and the effects of selfie are in relation to self-esteem and self-confidence," she added.

A genuine mental illness named ‘Selfitis’ and its multiple levels such as borderline, acute and chronic, were discussed.

Seema Prabhu and Raksha Acharya, lecturers of Canara College, Radhakrishna Bhat, treasurer of ARIVU, Sapna Shetty, special educator, ARIVU, and students of Canara College were present during the session. The seminar concluded with an interactive session.
