Mangaluru, Sep 5: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and public education department jointly celebrated the district-level Teachers’ Day at town hall on Tuesday, September 5.
District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated the celebrations while J R Lobo, MLA presided over the stage programme. UT Khadar, minister for food and civil supplies, Kavita Sanil, Mayor, Mangaluru City Corporation, Meenakshi Shanthigode, president, DK zilla Panchayat, Kasturi Panja, vice president Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, Mohammad Monu, president, taluk panchayat, Mangaluru, Dr M R Ravi, CEO Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, Divakar Shetty, deputy director public education department Mangaluru, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Dakshina Kannada zilla Sahitya Parishath, Y Shivaramayya deputy director public education department, Cypriyan Monthiero, principal DIET Mangaluru, Manjula KL were present on the dais.
In his inaugural speech, Ramanath Rai said, “Teachers profession is different from other professions. It includes self respect and social responsibility. It has the importance of asceticism. People are monitoring this profession closely.”
“Students always listen their teachers and follow their guidance and guidelines. Teacher’s behaviour also puts a lasting impact on children. Today's children are too brave and intelligent. So automatically teachers are forced to update themselves.”
“Along with teaching the syllabus, it is equally important to impart moral values. It is very essential at present. Teachers should concentrate on this aspect of moral development of students. Children should get guidance on social responsibility, communal harmony and humanity from their teachers. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan also pointed the same,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, UT Khadar said, “Our district is known for quality education. The credit should go to our teachers for this. Their efforts have made us proud in education field. Siddaramaiah led Congress govt is always ready to lend supportive hand to our teachers and students. The government is giving importance to education in the state. Our main aim is to impart healthy and skilful education to children. We are also committed to extend all facilities and food without any discrimination to all. With the help of teachers we are doing these all things.”
In his presidential note, MLA JR Lobo said, “Without teachers, it is difficult to build a civilized society. Every child is blessed with unlimited potential, and teachers have the responsibility of being a catalyst to transform the child into a confident and secure citizen of the world. A true teacher is not someone who just instructs but guides the students to grow holistically and become lifelong learners and good citizens. Dr Servepalli Radhakrishnan is an example for all teachers. He showed how to transform a child to a civilized and matured person.”
Sanjeeva and Vasanthi the state award winning teachers and Sheena Naik, Shankar, Narayana Poojary, Udaya Kumari K, Sharada G, Lingaraju KP, Yashoda MP, Dayananda NK, Mahadeva, John Chandran, Adam Saheb, Vishwanatha Gauda, Usha Kumari, Sathish Bhat the district award winning teachers were felicitated by dignitaries.
Y Shivaramaiah, deputy director, administration, public education department welcomed the guests and dignitaries. Manjula KL rendered vote of thanks. Sudhakar Pejavara and Manjula Shetty compered the programme.
