Udupi, Jan 16: Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), successfully hosted a 5-day bootcamp on Internet of Things (IoT) device programming from January 6 to 10. Organized by the department of mechatronics in collaboration with C-DAC Bengaluru, the programme aimed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills in IoT device programming using indigenously developed IoT kits.
The bootcamp was inaugurated on January 6 in the Sir M Visvesvarayya Seminar Hall, MIT Campus. The ceremony was graced by commander Dr Anil Rana, director of MIT Manipal, Prof D V Kamath, head of the department of mechatronics, Murugan, scientist D, C-DAC, and Suryansh, project engineer, C-DAC.
The bootcamp featured two sessions daily, conducted by experts from CDAC Bengaluru, including Shri Krishna (scientist E), Murugan (scientist D), Suryansh (project engineer), and Rohith (project engineer).
The bootcamp covered a wide range of topics, including foundational setup with VMware, Ubuntu, and Linux commands; fundamentals of C programming for IoT; microcontroller architecture and GPIO interfacing; hands-on exploration of UBmote kits using UART, I2C, and SPI protocols; IoT communication via MQTT and RF; real-time sensor integration with UBmote and UBsense; IoT security through AES encryption and gateway strategies; and practical IoT applications using indigenously developed kits.
Over 150 participants, including students from BTech (mechatronics) 6th semester and MTech (industrial automation and robotics) 2nd semester, benefited from this immersive learning experience. On the final day, a special faculty training session was conducted to enhance their understanding of UBmote and UBsense kits under the Center of Excellence for IoT.
The programme concluded with a valedictory ceremony on January 10 with Dr Somashekara Bhat, joint director, MIT Manipal, as the chief guest. Shri Krishna, scientist E, C-DAC Bengaluru, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between academia and industry.
This bootcamp has provided participants with a solid foundation in IoT, empowering them with practical skills to tackle real-world challenges and contribute to advancements in the IoT domain.
