Shivamogga, Jun 4: After a day after the video of an elderly woman dragging her ill husband along the floor to get his scanning done as she was allegedly not provided with a wheelchair at government run-hospital here went viral, the hospital has approached the police seeking a report on the authenticity of the video footage.
The incident had taken place at the government McGann hospital here on May 31 and the video went viral on June 2.
Amir Saab, aged about 75, is seen being dragged by his foot along the floor by his wife Fameeda in the video. The incident had sparked outrage with the government ordering an inquiry into it.
Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil, under whose department the hospital comes, had ordered an inquiry.
Three nurses and an attender were suspended on Friday.
Health Minister Ramesh Kumar had apologized for the incident and at the same time had told that the officials informed him the patient's family was ‘impatient’ to wait for the wheelchair.
“It seems to be a planned incident and the action lasted only for a few seconds. Later, the man was taken to the scanning room in a wheelchair. We suspect Murali Nayak, the relative of a patient in the hospital, may have been instigated by someone to record the incident and post it on WhatsApp to tarnish the image of the hospital,” hospital director B V Sushil Kumar said on Saturday after approaching the police.
One more nurse named Chetan Kumari was suspended on Saturday in connection with the incident.
